Welcome back to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
There is a new trailer for “Roseanne” for its reboot that shows how the Conner family has grown and changed over the time they’ve been gone, featuring new discussions of political images. It also mentions how the gang used to be fat and were then happy, and I can’t disagree: my fat pants are my sweatpants and who isn’t happier with an elastic waistband?
Diplo has a new track with Lil Yachty and Santigold, “Worry No More,” which features the rappers as bakery owners in brightly colored outfits having a grand old time. If anyone ever thought I would never be able to understand a rap video because I am deeply uncool, they thought wrong.
SNL this week presented a sketch regarding the “Harassment Awards” where they gave awards to all of the men in Hollywood who have been accused of inappropriate behavior in the last year. Sadly, they ran out of trophy money in the budget because the problem is such a huge ordeal and even Lorne Michaels doesn’t have enough cash to mock it.
Meghan Trainor has a new song out called “No Excuses,” which features her wearing a number of cute, sparkly, pink outfits with so much glitter. If she’s looking for someone to take anything off her hands after the video shoot is over because she’s out of room in her closet, I just want to say I can always use a metallic mini skirt.
“The Bachelor” finale was on Monday night, but I know no one was even bothering to watch this boring season with Arie so there’s no point in recapping it, but thank god we no longer need to suffer through those arduous commercials. Go pretend to be happy somewhere else, reality couple.
SZA admitted that she wasn’t the biggest fan of her debut album when discussing her losses at the Grammy’s this year. I mean, maybe she just didn’t have enough “Cntrl” over it, but considering the fact people are still digging the tracks, I don’t think she really has much that she to worry about.
“Scandal” and “How to Get Away with Murder” crossed over last week in an episode that had Annalise Keating and Olivia Pope working to reform the criminal justice system together. I mean, a good place to start might be with themselves.
DJ Khaled released the first single from his upcoming album, “Father of Ashad” (of course the baby gets a shout out), which features rapping from Future, Jay-Z, and Beyoncé. The question is, does Beyoncé out-rap Jay-Z on the track, and the answer is of course because Beyoncé is the best at everything she does, which is why she’s the Queen. Enough questions.
And finally, the Oscars happened this past weekend, if you weren’t watching from your sofa among piles of homework, and “The Shape of Water” took home many of the awards. The film focuses on a woman who falls in love with a creature from the sea and ultimately (spoiler alert) runs off with him. If anyone is currently feeling disenchanted with their chances on Tinder, this might be you next route.
Hope you enjoyed this week! See you back here again in two weeks. Whether you’ll be spending it in the sun, on the slopes, or in your dorm room looking out at the same view as always, have a lovely spring break, NYU.
