Welcome back to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
ABC is still airing “The Bachelor” even though everyone is so, totally over Ari, but there might be a new guy on the horizon as fans want contestant Becca’s nerdy ex to be the new contender in an upcoming season. You know how they say geeks make the best lovers (I think…maybe the geek in me made that up).
Lorde is in rehearsals for her “Melodrama” tour, and it’s been so intensive that she talked this week about having to lie down and take a rest. If you need anyone to fill in for you, I have about a dozen Instagram followers who are still mouthing the words to your songs in selfie videos weekly.
Omarosa was eliminated from the “Big Brother” house on CBS this past week after her vicious game play that made all of the other contestants want her gone. You’d think after two stints on “The Apprentice,” the second of which being in the White House, she’d know a little bit more about reality game shows at this point.
Zayn is using Instagram to try and workshop “late night ideas” for his music, which many think could be a sneak peak at his next album. I mean, I’m not sure the best marketing strategy is to post your most exciting content when your biggest fan base is probably asleep and getting ready for middle school tomorrow, but hey, there’s a reason you’re not the most successful solo act from One Direction.
It was announced that the Kardashians are going to compete on Celebrity Family Feud in an upcoming episode, so if you’re ready for every answer to be a curse word or something sexual, be sure to set your DVRs.
Laverne Cox has made her music debut with the song “Beat for the Gods,” which has the whole world buzzing as she proves that there is nothing she can’t do, even releasing a killer music video for the track. Cox seems to only be releasing this song for now, so at least you won’t have to feel like an underachiever for too long.
In more news about “The Simpsons” being able to predict the future, last year they were blamed for a Trump presidency and this year they had foresight about the U.S. winning gold in Olympic curling. Maybe next time they’ll be able to make something a little more positive happen? Let’s make Lisa president!
Donald Glover shared this week that he almost didn’t perform at the Grammys after the award show realized he was kind of a big deal and showed a picture of him in their commercials, except it wasn’t him but another African American person from one of his videos. Maybe its time for CBS and NYU to get together in terms of not understanding racial ignorance this week after our dining hall scandal.
And finally, “The Walking Dead” on AMC returned with news that of how Carl died, a storyline that was started in the mid-season finale, if you can remember that far back. It involved a lot of people telling each other they loved each other. Didn’t know people who spent so much time with zombies could be so affectionate.
Hope you enjoyed this week! See you back here again next Wednesday. If the start of midterm season has got you down, just think about all the fun your friends at other schools are already having on spring break. It won’t make it better but at least you’ll fully commit to being sad.
