Welcome back to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
It was announced that James Franco will be returning for season two of HBO’s “The Deuce,” and if you’re still up in the air about your feelings on him after the allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior, at least here he is playing a total pervert, so art mimics reality?
If you are not feeling the romance, then Eminem and Ed Sheeran have the music video for you. Dropping today, “River” from Eminem’s latest album features a woman screaming in the woods and a rapper asking her solemnly what she thinks about love. To be fair, that would also have been my reaction to that question.
The return of Freeform’s “The Bold Type” inches closer every day, but creators have revealed that the fashion closet may no longer be a place where the characters can hang out and gossip anymore. I mean, I know it’s just a silly TV show, but I can’t be the only one revealed to see that these women are going to actually be getting some work done instead of trying on a bunch of amazing clothes no one actually has access to.
Shawn Mendes is hyping his third album by comparing it to the work of John Mayer and doing promotional work without his shirt on. I’m not sure who thought popularizing the idea that anyone is still into either of these concepts was good marketing but I’m also pretty sure we just sent feminism back at least fifty years. Produce better music and we’ll listen, dude.
John Krasinski revealed he would be very excited to participate in the revival of “The Office” that has been discussed (remember, this season is all about old TV being new again). If you’re like me and still haven’t seen the show, then like Dwight, we all remain ignorant sluts.
Cardi B revealed this week that she was attacked by a cheetah when she was filming the music video for her hit single “Bodak Yellow.” She was also photographed next to Anna Wintour during New York’s Fashion Week, showing that maybe our struggles definitely lead to greener pastures, and you can certainly never expect what will brighten up your Instagram feed. Repost!
If you’re watching the Olympics, then perhaps you saw that 17 year-old American Red Gerard won the first gold medal for the United States in snowboarding, after he woke up late following a Netflix binge and lost his coat. He also celebrated by swearing on national TV. I never knew I had so much in common with Olympians.
Drake is back in his dancing shoes in his video for “Look Alive,” a collaboration with BlocBoyJB. He broke out the moves from his “Hotline Bling” days, doing what has been dubbed the “cooking” dance and bounces around with all of his buddies. I think because this song is more serious we’re not supposed to laugh, but I can’t take anyone dancing in a winter puffer jacket seriously.
And finally, in honor of today being the most romantic day of the year, or just the day before the best candy sell ever at CVS, here is a link of TV-inspired Valentine’s that you might enjoy sending to your special someone, or just buying for yourself, but who doesn’t need “Games of Thrones” love in their lives?
Hope you enjoyed this week! See you back here again next Wednesday. Here’s to a Valentine’s Day that is more romantic than my sitting through my nighttime writing workshop!
