Welcome back to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
Rumors spread this week that Miley Cyrus was expecting a baby, but the songstress shut those down by explaining that the podge in her stomach was nothing more than the result of indulging in a little too much food. Gosh, when will we see a day when women can eat as much junk as they want without someone assuming they’re with child?
CBS proved that there’s no telling what can get extended this week when they ordered full seasons of “Man With a Plan” and “Superior Donuts” and quietly allowed “Wisdom of the Crowd” to continue to fail without really having to cancel it. The network sounds a lot like that parent who keeps driving their kid to soccer practice even when they miss kicking the ball and fall to the ground.
P!nk released a new music video for her song “Beautiful Trauma,” where she is featured as the worst 1950s housewife ever who dances around and plays dress-up with Channing Tatum before seeing if he’s into bondage and leather whips. I mean, if they were doing this stuff back in the “I Love Lucy” days, just imagine how high the ratings would’ve been!
Fergie has been announced as host of the new musical competition show “The Four” premiering on FOX next year, and if you’re wondering why FOX thinks they need another show where singers duke it out, just remember that they let “American Idol” go, not realizing they just needed a little space instead of a major break-up. We all make mistakes.
It’s reported that ABC’s “The Good Doctor” will have an upcoming episode that will tackle the topic of sexual harassment in the workplace for one of its staffers, showing that the network (whose parent company is Disney) still isn’t too old to make topical content to teach everyone a much needed lesson.
In continued support for her latest album, Lana Del Ray is selling some of her vintage frocks on the merch table at upcoming tour dates. For every show where I’ve ever just purchased a t-shirt, you’re looking pretty lame right about now, not going to lie.
This week we finally experienced the “Arrow”-verse crossover event, where stars of “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” and other Marvel fantasy worlds came together to see what happens when a problem inflicts upon all of them. If you ever thought about starting one of these series, it sure sounds like an opportunity to feel overwhelmed by it and give up all hope for something easier to follow.
Nicki Minaj just realized that her song “MotorSport,” a collaboration with Cardi B and Migos, features a line referencing some sexual desires that she totally did not pick up on before the song’s release. Uh huh, or are you just reminding us of this now so it can try for another go at the top of the charts again a month later? I see you, Nicki.
And finally, the hearts of women across the globe broke this week when Prince Harry announced his engagement to “Suits” actress Meghan Markle, meaning the world’s most eligible bachelor is abdicating the title. Markle will also be leaving the series by the end of the season to take up her new duties as a burgeoning member of the royal family. I guess it just goes to show you really can’t have it all.
Hope you enjoyed this week! See you back here again next Wednesday. Hope you had a pleasant Thanksgiving and that none of your relatives asked you about your future careers options or your love life.
