Welcome back to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
“Stranger Things” on Netflix is coming back just in time for the Halloween season and the internet is filled with articles about the things you need to remember before the new season starts. Look, if watching a television show is only going to add to my required reading list, it just isn’t worth it. “Dance Moms” anyone?
Niall Horan dropped his debut solo album, “Flicker” with an intimate concert in Burbank, California (where One Direction previously released some of their music) and played some new songs for fans. He also continued to encourage me to run away to Ireland and open a bookshop and find a nice man in a pub and never look back…after I graduate, of course.
CBS has announced that they are going to be rebooting “Magnum P.I.” in the upcoming future, which probably means they’re trying to find something to fill the void that will inevitably be left as the cast of NCIS departs in every direction. Hey, it’s been fifteen years. That’s longer than most marriages.
Charlie Puth has released the video for his song “How Long” which features him at some sort of formal event trying to bust a move. He told press that he just wanted to “dance like an idiot,” and considering the fact that he’s a young white man trying to find his place on the dance floor, I don’t think there was ever any concern about whether or not that could be accomplished.
The CW is looking to develop yet another comic book series into a television series, this one called “Project 13” and focusing on a women forensic scientist who believes in the paranormal. Anyone else think it’s weird the network from shows about spoiled, frothy teenagers living in privileged worlds pivots to a focus on normal people now saving the bigger world…?
Taylor Swift has another new single from the upcoming “Reputation” album, but this one is actually pretty darn catchy and something I could listen to more than once, even if she does mention going home alone with her cats. I mean, I guess she had to do something to convince us to take some inspiration from her “old Taylor” outfits when we’re looking for Halloween costumes this year – admittedly, I’m definitely still rocking the looks from the “Fearless” phase.
HGTV’s “Fixer Upper” is planning some big celebrity guests for their upcoming final season, so if you’re on your way to Waco, Texas and run into Tim Tebow putting up shiplap, it’s just another day in the neighborhood.
Fifth Harmony recreated the “Mean Girls” Jingle Bell Rock dance number for their recent performance at Jay-Z’s TIDAL X benefit show, except they didn’t wear Santa suits, and they didn’t sing a Christmas carol, and no one kicked the dance track boom box off the stage, so basically the only similarity was that it was a bunch of hot girls dancing in a line on a stage. Totally the same thing.
And finally, it was announced that Justin Timberlake would perform at the upcoming 52nd Super Bowl next year, which means he’s either got new music he’ll end up promoting (maybe), his role in Woody Allen’s upcoming flick will be earth shattering (spoiler alert: definitely not), or P!nk was totally snubbed from what would have been a sick performance by a super talented, strong woman (this one – it’s this one).
Hope you enjoyed this week! See you back here again next Wednesday, when I’ve been told we’ll actually start feeling some fall weather. Yes, people, it will finally be boot season.
