Welcome back to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
The Netflix series “Thirteen Reasons Why” is still the talk of the pop culture town in terms of controversies. However, this week the stars of the show have been discussing the idea that there is going to be a second season of the show. Maybe they should start by being more concerned with whether or not the trigger warnings for the content take up more time than the actual programming.
Nick Jonas is going for a country sound with his recent collaboration at a Shania Twain concert, performing a version of Twain’s duet “Party for Two.” Jonas said that Twain is the reason he is in music today, and what he really meant is that she was in the right place at the right the time when he needed to be back in the news for something.
Ryan Seacrest was named the new co-host of “Live with Kelly” this week, a decision reportedly made due to fears of how the ABC-produced show will face off against Megyn Kelly’s new show debuting on MSNBC in the same time slot. Ryan took the job because he realized he had a free space in his schedule between reminiscing on his “American Idol” days and figuring out how much he earns during every rerun of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.”
Musical duo The Chainsmokers recently crashed a high school prom, taking a break from their tour to have some fun. They also became part of a popular meme on Twitter this week about thinking any two white guys could claim to be them and get away with it — making me question if they ACTUALLY showed up at this prom or not.
ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” is planning a musical episode, of which they released the track list for this week. But don’t expect to know any of them, because they’re all originals. The show is reportedly going into its last season, so why not go out with a bang, and a boop, and a la la la, too?
Nicki Minaj released a new music video for her song “Regret in Your Tears,” which featured a number of sexy mermen and water to drown her feelings in. When pints of Ben & Jerry’s and bad Hallmark movies are completely unavailable, this is certainly the way to get over a heartbreak in my book.
For all of you HGTV lovers, Chip Gaines of the show “Fixer Upper” is being sued over accusations that he did not share information with an old business partner about the opportunity he had received to start the show. I guess there’s something a little bit maniacal behind all of that shiplap.
The Fyre Festival came to a crashing halt this week after guests had nowhere to stay and dangerous conditions on the remote island in the Bahamas, and also when gorgeous models like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner backed out of supporting the fest. Has no one read Lord of the Flies and was able to predict this already?
And finally, to end this semester on a wonderful note, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” released an exclusive behind the scenes video this week of Stephen telling the story of how he met his wife, saying that when he saw the woman standing across the room in a beautiful black dress, he knew she was the one. I hope to meet my husband in the same way, except he’ll be dressed exactly like Stephen Colbert.
Hope you enjoyed this week and this entire semester of Hump Day Update. I’ll catch you back here after the summer. Good luck with finals, NYU.
