Welcome back to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
On Freeform’s “The Fosters,” Callie and her friend Aaron are about to get closer when they take a trip to visit Aaron’s family. Seeing that this is a teenage soap opera where Callie has dated or dealt with the death of or filed a restraining order against every other guy in her life, it’s about time she got the hots for her only platonic male friend.
Adele has warned her fans that she may make the decision to never tour again after she finishes up her latest round. I guess when every ballad you write gets played a million times on Spotify whenever someone has a break-up, you can afford to stop singing “Hello” and start saying good-bye.
Matthew Morrison is reported to play Jo’s mysteriously missing husband on “Grey’s Anatomy” in an upcoming episode. As long as he sings and dances through those dull hallways, I’ll take it. That show needs some serious lightening up.
Sia performed on Sesame Street where she sang a song about songs (very original) with the crew of muppets. More shockingly, however, is the fact that she performed for one of the rare times without her face being covered. Perhaps when everyone else is in a costume covering your face, the way to really stand out is to take the more natural approach.
Speaking of artists covering their faces, Nicki Minaj has been sporting these metallic glasses that sort of resemble snowboarding goggles lately in her music videos, including the most recent “Light My Body Up.” She decided to take the trend to the streets where people thought that Daft Punk was trying out the spring-version of their usual helmets and had added a female to the group.
“Pretty Little Liars” is about to return, where one character is trying to figure out who the father of her baby is (hoping it’s not a crazy person who tried to kill her), others are looking at marriage, and all are still on the run from the law. Remember, this really will be the final season – so the parents of young girls everywhere can stop regretting having let their kids watch it and get so enthralled in something so ridiculous in the first place.
Show-runner of “Fear the Walking Dead,” Dave Erickson is planning to leave the show at the end of its upcoming third season to work on other shows for the AMC network. Maybe he’d just like a chance to write about characters who are actually alive and not feeding off other humans for once?
ABC’s “Quantico” came to an end this week where someone died in a very bloody way. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but if this is the show’s way of encouraging people to work for the government, combined with our current President it’s only ensuring the country’s not going to be in good hands.
And finally, in more Trump and art related news, two rappers took aim at the president. Kendrick Lamar called out the president, labeling him a “chump” while asking that he gets his act together before the rapper’s release date, and Iggy Azalea flashed the message “Pussy Grabs Back” on her butt in her video for her latest single, “Bounce.” I guess this is what happens when you talk about putting more guns instead of paint brushes in people’s hands.
Hope you enjoyed this week! See you back here next weeks. Remember your umbrellas, NYU.
