Welcome to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
John Legend has a new music video out for his song “Love Me Now” which features a number of couples getting all snuggly, including him and his wife, Chrissy Teigen. Just in case you a) didn’t already know they totally love each other, and b) weren’t aware that your #relationshipgoals are forever unachievable.
NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” could not go without addressing last week’s election results, which involved a cold open where Kate McKinnon’s Hillary Clinton sang “Hallelujah” in tribute to both Leonard Cohen and the inevitable demise of our country. I’m sure Alec Baldwin was backstage and in the vein of Trump saying everything was “wrong.”
In semi-good news, Ariana Grande has been so inspired by the current political climate that she announced her forthcoming album might be coming a little sooner than planned. Who else is excited to hear how Hillary rally chants will sound as Mariah Carey knock-off songs?
ABC and Marvel are in talks to work on a new live-action miniseries together called “Inhumans” which will first have episodes in movie theaters followed by stint on TV. However, someone should probably let them know nobody is going to watch the thing until they just put it on Netflix.
Justin Bieber is going to be a part of an upcoming documentary, “Bodyguards: Secret Lives of the Watchtower,” where he gets real about issues with fans and asks that people talk to him rather than just ask for a selfie. So in case you run into Bieber anytime soon, be sure to have your conversation cards handy instead of your camera (but leave the really deep topics at home).
On “The Big Bang Theory” this week, Sheldon was intrigued by the idea of having a baby with Amy, his long time girlfriend, due to their perfect combination of genes and then tried to seduce her. People of course laughed at his seduction techniques, though I’m not sure why. I always use the tango to woo men — don’t we all?
Willow Smith is also hurting after this election, which led to her release of a new track, “November 9,” a minute and a half song about not letting the defeat get us down. It’s a nice thought, but also kind of sad that someone who couldn’t even vote in this election has more insight on it than many of the political analysts.
In case you were curious, “The Vampire Diaries” is still on the CW, and this week, there was much debate about who long time favorite character, Caroline, is going to end up with: Stefan or Klaus (both vampires who have had their fair share of good and bad moments). This might sound crazy but perhaps she should look for someone a little less…paranormal?
Rapper Riff Raff has offered to play Donald Trump’s inauguration for $50K, his reasoning being something to do with his resentment over having had to pay too much in taxes over the years. In case you were looking for another reason not to listen to Riff Raff, here you go.
And finally, USA’s new drama “Shooter” will finally premiere this week after being delayed for months in the wake of numerous mass shootings across the country that they felt would make the show’s debut sensitive as it is about such a topic. Many critics question if the show will ever be appropriate, meanwhile I worry given our current political climate, it might be a little too much to premiere a show all about a plan to assassinate the president, especially on a network called USA.
Hope you enjoyed this week! See you back here next Wednesday.
