Welcome to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
Nick Jonas is still talking about his problems in his new music video for the track “Champagne Problems” where the former boy bander can be seen sitting in the middle of a dance floor in a club and complaining about women, as privileged young men tend to do. Also, the video is on Tidal, but the one-minute preview that is available to the public is definitely enough.
NBC’s “The Voice” is down to twelve contestants after eight were eliminated this past week with each coach able to keep three of their best vocalists. If you’re like me and surprised to learn the show still has 12 since it’s been on for three months, you’re not alone, and if you were eliminated and feeling blue, just remember that no one remembers who wins “The Voice” two weeks after it ends each year, anyway.
In better music video news, Green Day released a new video for their song “Still Breathing,” where Billie Joe Armstrong is featured walking down yet another lonely road only to end up at band practice after a series of strange, sad events including a mysterious woman in white. Well, I guess that’s a new excuse for why he was late.
The creators of “The Big Bang Theory” announced this week that they are looking into making a prequel spinoff show to the program, which would explore the life of Sheldon Cooper. Never has there been such an unsexy, stressful, but smart show proposed for cable television.
Lorde is almost twenty and to celebrate she announced that her follow up album to “Pure Heroine” will be out “soon” and told us that she’s super excited but can’t relay any details about her first non-adolescent album anytime soon. Well, at least she doesn’t sound too grown up and hardened by the world yet.
ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” tackled the big issues, as per usual, this week when Amelia Grey informed her new husband that she is not interested in having children with him. This wouldn’t be quite so hard for the audience to believe if the actress who plays Amelia, Caterina Scorsone, weren’t saying these words while being pregnant in real life (yes, we can tell underneath that giant coat and behind that briefcase).
Lady Gaga isn’t the only person doing bar tours these days. Justin Bieber was in a Toronto bar when he lost interest in the basketball game and started belting out a piano version of his song “Sorry.” Cool for the patrons, but I’m kind of sorry that Bieber-fever has been diluted to barely a cough.
“SNL” aired their last episode prior to the election where Kate McKinnon and Alec Baldwin broke their political characters to be nice to one another and run off from the NBC studios for a respite. They must have been really sick of playing these roles by now if they thought an escape was to go down to Times Square at night.
And finally, yesterday was indeed Election Day, an event many of you hopefully celebration by exercising your right to vote. Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart certainly encouraged people to do so after their singing and dancing on Monday night’s “Late Show.” If two of the funniest and sexiest men alive (I’m serious) didn’t encourage you to make the right choice at that ballot box, I’m not sure what would have.
Hope you enjoyed this week! See you back here next Wednesday.
