Welcome to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
CBS has ordered some full seasons for their new shows including the reboot of “MacGyver,” Michael Weatherly’s “Bull” and surprisingly, “Kevin Can Wait.” I guess it just proves that there is something to be said for shows with some nice eye candy starring at the forefront (yes, even you, Kevin James).
Rumors have swirled around the internet that Taylor Swift is going to be releasing an album at the end of the week that will be dropped on us unexpectedly in the way that is apparently so cool despite the way it causes a planner like me to freak out. If this is the case, here’s to hoping there will be a track that gushes about her clear love of accents from the U.K.
“Quantico” on ABC continued its twists and turns to tell a story that won’t fully unfold until May but will try to keep us hooked all the way through then, which includes a plotline where our fearless leading lady, Alex, is taking down the terrorists trying to hurt fellow FBI agents while dressed like one of the terrorists. If only this costume were selling out faster than sexy Ken Bone.
One Direction has been on a break for long enough that we can probably classify it as a break-up, but Niall Horan was interviewed this week and said that the group has spoken about the possibility of reuniting in the future. Well, sure, if the Rolling Stones do it in their seventies, what is stopping these guys from doing the same sometime down the line? I’m saving up for my catered meals and luxury tent at Boy Band-chella 2065 already.
In further One Direction news, former member Zayn Malik is going to be releasing his autobiography soon because we all know lives by the time we get to our twenties must be documented in full. So far, the book is set to talk about Zayn’s inability to sing about being chaste in early 1D songs to his tussles with his producer on his solo project, which proves one thing: in the word’s of Miley Cyrus, this bad boy cannot be tamed.
When “Nashville” comes back for a fifth season on CMT, it will apparently be bringing a number of new stars to its new network, including a new love interest for Maddie’s character that will be played by Joseph David-Jones. Not sure how this is going to work with the same audience that likes shows all about rednecks, fishing and the good ol’ days of the Confederacy, but hey, they tell you to try anything once, right?
AMC announced this week that “The Walking Dead” will indeed continue on for yet another season beyond the one that has yet to premier, meaning that apparently the network is confident in believing that people will continue to be intrigued by the prospect of half dead people moving in and around our daily lives. Hey, we’ve heard crazier things — just listen to one of the presidential debates!
And finally, speaking of politics, everyone remember the controversy Billy Bush caused with his involvement in the leaked “Access Hollywood” tapes with Donald Trump in 2005? Well, now Bush has officially been fired from NBC for his behavior in the tapes, rather than just being fired for being a poor journalist as he should’ve been anyway. It has not been a good election season for the Bush family, has it?
Hope you enjoyed this week! See you back here next Wednesday.
