Welcome back to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. Hope you had a fantastic spring break! I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
Justin Bieber and Usher reunited on stage on a recent stop of Bieber’s “Purpose World Tour” in Atlanta. It started out as an acoustic jam session, and then Bieber and Usher performed some of Usher’s biggest hits together, including “U Got It Bad” and “U Don’t Have to Call.” I guess the student has now surpassed the master if Usher is relying on the Biebs for publicity.
On CBS this week, “Supergirl” teased the idea of bringing on Superman to the forefront, but then he doesn’t end up saving the day and Supergirl is still left to clean up the city as it falls apart (typical man). Rumor also has it that the show will be moving to FX next year, once again showing us that women can’t even be on a better network than her male counterparts.
You may have seen that Tim Burton will be making a sequel to his 2011 “Alice in Wonderland” film with “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” once again teaming up with Disney. The flick will also feature another original soundtrack of songs, including at least one by P!nk. The production is quite literally all of my middle school dreams coming true.
If you remember the movie “Vacation,” you may be into TBS’s new show “The Detour,” where lots of uncomfortable topics are covered from menstrual cycles to peeing in Gatorade bottles while on the side of the road. I’m not sure who would want to spend any more time on an awful road trip with their family than they have to, but apparently whoever is watching this show would.
Beyoncé sparked a buzz this past week when she changed the cover photo on her Facebook page to a black screen, which read, “Lemonade.” Many people are speculating that this is some kind of a hint as to the next project that the Queen B will be working on. I, personally, just feel that she is a big fan of Amy Schumer’s television show and its viral videos.
The CW’s “Jane the Virgin” stepped into risky territory this when they gave a character post-partum depression and revealed that this SAME character has an evil twin. I mean, some people are complaining that this sounds far-fetched, but I know that this has happened to at least two of my relatives, so…
Coachella happened this past weekend, so lots of people were probably shown on your Instagram feed wearing flowers crowns and cut-offs. Kesha also made the decision to reappear in the spotlight at the festival, which was probably a good career move. What better way to make a comeback than to do it with a crowd full of overly emotional, sympathetic hippies?
ABC’s “Quantico” continued to carry on this confusing us when everyone started to turn against Alex, punishing her for her snooping around the FBI and finding problems where there aren’t any. I’m glad my friends haven’t treated me this way when I’ve tried to figure out what they’re getting me for my birthday.
And speaking of which, finally, today is one of the most important days of the entire year, one where everyone takes some time out of their day to relax, kick back, and do something they probably wouldn’t want their parents to know about – otherwise known as my birthday! I’m not sure what else you thought we celebrate each year on 4/20 but shame on you.
Hope you enjoyed this week! See you back here next week!
