Welcome back to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. Hope you had a fantastic spring break! I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
Iggy Azalea refuses to go away despite the fact we are not interested, giving her yet another quality akin to that annoying dude you once met at a party who doesn’t get the memo that you’ve seen the light that it’s not longer cool. She released her video for the song “Team,” where she breaks almost every law possible. Hm, do you think we can make it a law that Iggy’s no longer allowed to write music and produce it, and then maybe that’ll happen too?
CBS and The CW created a beautiful brainchild this week with their crossover episode of “Supergirl” and “The Flash.” Although both of these shows have gotten a lot of flack from critics, it got me excited enough to watch superhero shows (for a reason beyond the cute boys), and that’s saying a heck of a lot.
The Summer Set released their latest album this past week, where the group finally came to terms with the fact that they do not quite fit into the category of pop music or punk music, but instead find themselves continuing to blindly straddle the line. I’m glad that the group finally decided this was okay, because most of their fan girls have embraced having their freak flags fly since they were going through their emo middle school days.
On “Girls,” this week, we had an entire episode featuring Marnie, probably our least favorite young woman, doing lots of self-reflection on her life where we got scenes of the budding songstress listening to her iTunes playlist on the subway train. When can I get filmed during my morning commute doing the same thing and get paid for it?
Jason Derulo released his latest single (where he proudly sings his name at the beginning). The title is “If It Ain’t Love,” which is ironic, because if it’s a Jason Derulo song, it’s probably about anything but love. And honestly, also if it’s Jason Derulo, chances are it’s also about butts.
ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” set women back fifty years when Meredith and her sisters got upset with the men in their lives and made the decision to clean their house. There’s obviously no other way for women to work out their feelings, right? This is the way we’re going if Donald Trump is elected, people.
Taylor Swift was at the iHeartRadio awards this past weekend, where she said she was happy to have someone to share the happiness with when she went home that evening, shouting out her boyfriend Calvin Harris (though she calls him Adam). That’s great you’re happy and all, Taylor, but then she said she was taking some time off. As a fellow artist, it is difficult to create when you’re having too good of a time.
And finally, the American Country Music awards also happened this Sunday, where there was a little something for everyone, from Katy Perry and Dolly Parton comparing bust size, Chris Stapleton winning everything, and even Nick Jonas showed up. But one of the biggest bits of news was Blake Shelton premiering his latest song, supposedly about new girl Gwen Stefani, which people thought was big news since ex-Miranda Lambert was in the audience. Well, the best way for her to get back at him? Winning Female Vocalist of the Year to show you’re still killing it – go girl!
Hope you enjoyed this week! See you back here next week!
