Welcome to Hump Day Update, the place to find out everything you need to know about what’s been going on in the entertainment world for the week. I’m Rachel A.G. Gilman. But enough about me, let’s get to the news.
ABC announced this week their plans to develop a half-hour sitcom series that would act as a sequel to “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” which would follow the lives of Julia Roberts and Rupert Everett’s characters in New York. So, apparently there aren’t any good original scripts out there, nor movies with better endings to rip off.
Joe Jonas has a new band (seriously) called DNCE, and they released the video for their new song “Cake By The Ocean.” If you thought the title is bad, the video is worse (girls literally start fighting each other with cake) and marks the directorial debut of Jonas’s girlfriend and model, Gigi Hadid. Well, they do say you can’t have brains and beauty.
Speaking of modeling, after 22 seasons, Tyra Banks revealed via Tweet that the current season of “America’s Next Top Model” with be its last. The network, CW, later confirmed. The most tragic thing about this is now tall, beautiful people have one less outlet to fame, plus, who will tell us to remember to “smize?”
During broadcast of U.K. “The X Factor,” what appeared to be a teaser for Adele’s new album, reportedly entitled “25,” were shown. In the four years since Adele’s last album, she’s found love and started the family, so let’s just hope she can continue to write the heart wrenching songs we love her for!
CBS will premier “2 Broke Girls” in November in lieu of running Jane Lynch’s new sitcom “Angel from Hell,” which has now been pushed back to February. Both shows have their faults: while angel from hell is just plain contradictory, I can’t help but wonder how much longer we’re supposed to believe the two girls are actually broke—seriously, they ended last season on a plane to Paris and Caroline always has perfect hair. Don’t underestimate our logic, CBS.
After undergoing vocal cord surgery for hemorrhages earlier this year, Meghan Trainor is back, and spoke to Ellen DeGeneres about the process. She included a story about a new song she wrote about a guy (whose name was not given) who led her on. Hey, Meghan, if he’s not all about that bass, then it’s his loss.
Jimmy Fallon put on his Trump wig again this week on “The Tonight Show” as he and David Allen Grier (dressed as Ben Carson) parodied the leading Republican candidates watching the Democratic Debate. The only unbelievable part was “Carson’s” frequent sips of NyQuil to get through the event. He’s a doctor: he definitely would’ve gotten himself something a little harder.
One Direction released the next single, “Perfect,” off their upcoming album, which many people took as a response to Taylor Swift’s “Style” from last year due to lyrical references to a girl writing songs and a similar musical quality to Swift’s song. So, Ms. Swift, how are you enjoying a taste of your own medicine?
And finally, other exes have apparently made beautiful music together. Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber had a secret duet, “Strong,” released this week on Drake’s OVO Sound Radio show. The track was not released on Selena Gomez’s album earlier this month, but there is the possibility it could be on Bieber’s, due out in November. Here’s to hoping it will (because we’re all nosey gossips and want to know as much about this relationship as possible).
Hope you enjoyed this week! See you back here next Wednesday.
